Over the past 45 years, Kemur-bred horses and ponies have brought in hundreds of ribbons from shows across North America. Highlights include the Triple Crown and Lieutenant Governor Awards at the Royal Winter Horse Show in Toronto and Main Spring silver medal in the 1972 Olympic Games.

From beginner to advanced and all those in between Kemur horses and ponies welcome 50 girls girls each week. We have over 65 horses and ponies of a variety of size and skill level.

After talking to each girl on Sunday evening we carefully choose a horse or pony suitable to their level. Riders will meet their mount Monday morning, at which time we ensure they are a good fit and in a riding group appropriate to their level.

Throughout the course of the week, each rider has the opportunity to develop a special partnership with their horse or pony, learning to work together as a team both on the ground and while riding. The bond developed between our horses and campers is remarkable, making it hard for girls to leave their new “best friend” at the end of the week.

Kemur’s riding program includes two one hour-long rides every day and interactive horsemanship seminars. Lessons are taught by our knowledgable and enthusiastic staff. Riding groups range from 4-7 riders allowing each camper to receive the attention they need to learn, improve and have fun. Counsellor’s In Training (CIT’s) are also involved during the riding time to assist with grooming, tack up, lessons and trails.

Lessons are focused on building each student’s confidence and skill as a rider in a safe environment. Our staff take pride in planning creative lessons for each unique group of riders to meet their goals. Our staff love to pass on their many years of experience riding, showing and coaching.

We have five large hunter sand rings allowing all lessons to be taught in a ring appropriate to the level of rider. Our “Sand” and “Grand Prix” rings sport full hunter courses with fillers for advanced riders. The “Pony Ring” and “Oven” are perfect places for beginner to intermediate riders to learn, as well as allowing advanced riders to improve their flatwork. Our indoor arena is well suited to all levels.

Kemur’s 250 acres of land offers miles of picturesque riding trails that wind through lush farmland and old-growth forest. From catching sight of rare birds in Kemur’s wetland to singing trail songs in fields of corn, nothing beats seeing the world from horseback!
