Beginner riders, advanced, and for all those in between, we carefully choose a horse or pony suitable to each girl's level. Throughout the course of the week, each rider has the opportunity to develop a special partnership with their horse or pony, learning to work together as a team both on the ground and while riding. The bond developed between our horses and campers is remarkable, making it hard for girls to leave their new “best friend” at the end of the week!

With an active Welsh Pony and Canadian Sport Horse breeding program, there is never a shortage of foals at Kemur Camp! Over the past 40 years, Kemur-bred horses and ponies have brought in hundreds of ribbons from shows across North America. Highlights include the Triple Crown and Lieutenant Governor Awards at the Royal Winter Horse Show in Toronto and Main Spring silver medal in the 1972 Olympic Games.

Kemur’s riding program includes two hour-long rides every day and interactive horsemanship seminars.
Riding lessons are taught in five large rings by our enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff. Beginner and Intermediate groups are limited to 7 riders with both a counselor and working student with girls on trails and first 2 lessons. Senior lessons have 7-8 riders in their group and also have a back up on trails.

Lessons are focused on building each student’s confidence and skill as a rider in a safe environment-with fun a priority at all times!
The ‘in’ camp Horse Show at the end of the week is both fun and challenging for all riders.

Kemur’s 250 acres of land offers miles of picturesque riding trails that wind through lush farmland and old-growth forest. From catching sight of rare birds in Kemur’s wetland to singing trail songs in fields of corn, nothing beats seeing the world from horseback!

Sandhill Crane

If you are lucky this summer you could be treated to the bugling call of the local Sandhill Cranes that visit our farm each year. We have named our pair “Fraiser” and “Lilith”. These beautiful cranes have successfully raised families over the past few years.

Kemur is a bird rich area, situated in the Grand River Valley. The lush meadows are bordered by the Grand River in the east, Deans Lake to the north and Grass Lake, a rich wetland to the west and south.
